Basic SEO : Forum Signatures For Maximun Ranking Effect
As many people know, forum signatures have a limited degree of impact on current search results in Google , ask different people and you will get a varied responses as to there utility and effectiveness I suggest they should be a part of the linking strategy of any webmaster or SEO who is seeking the edge in promoting his or her (or a clients ) site up the the visible ranking ladder, in combination with all the other known and effective linking methods available Here, I am only addressing the effects of forum signatures on Serps not the value of the click on link itself for direct traffic, which can be substantial in itself. I will just establish 2 key points :
* The benefits of a well ranked forum signature are particularly useful for new domains as search engine robots index many of these forums on a daily basis and will pick links up to your site or domain very quickly
* Regular posting required : Forum signature links will have a short useful life unless regular posting is maintained A good rule of thumb is to post regularly in popular threads on popular forum categories related to your site where possible Even more fundamental is the choice of forum theme , choice of forum category thread and even post titles ( if you are really serious and have the time ) For instance you have a travel site , so you search Google "travel forums" , check the forums listed on the first few pages : do they allow signatures ? check rules, how many posts required for this privilege? --often 30+ posts and finally, check that html links in the allowable signature are --" do follow "-- You can discreetly do this by scanning members signatures on the forum with a "do follow " checking tool -having established this - then introduce yourself and get started. Make good quality, on topic, helpful posts and you should have little problem with a modest signature or even several. Links from your forum signatures should show within a few days as backlinks, (in Yahoo Site Explorer) if they are effective and there is not some technical reason why they are not showing up. I tend to favor Vbulletin forums because I know they work, by my own testing. |
